Before and After Plastic Surgery

You must have decided to undergo a cosmetic surgery procedure to improve some part of your body. But before you get through the procedure you should check all the available options, your expectations and how you should prepare. It should also be known that in addition to preparation, post-operation care and recovery are also crucial part of the procedure.

Post-operation, when you leave for your home, the surgeon checks the operated site and changes the dressing. In the beginning there may be some numbness or discomfort around the site, and this is not serious at all. Your surgeon will recommend some medicine to relieve you off the pain or discomfort. However, if the pain worsens you should instantly inform your surgeon.

If you have to wear the dressing on the operated site for some time, it is necessary that you replace it every couple of days. And, you should also check the wound for any sort of swelling or redness.

If you have good health conditions your wounds before and after plastic surgery can heal in very less time. But, if you have other medical conditions like a weak immune system or diabetes, or if you are using some other drugs, the healing process can take longer.

You can enhance the healing speed by taking food high in vitamins, zinc and protein. Your doctor can also suggest some nutritional supplements in order to speed the healing.

During the recovery period before and after plastic surgery, it is necessary to take special care so as to avoid any scars. There are several methods that are effective both during and after the healing. Self-adhesive silicone sheets have proven to be the most effective of these techniques. And once your post-surgery scars are completely healed, you can use other techniques in order to minimize their appearance. You can resort to the use of lasers in order to rematerialize the surgery site. This helps in both softening and reducing the appearance of the scar tissue.

A useful technique to minimize the scars is to use dermatography, which involves medical tattooing. In this process pigment is injected in order to camouflage the scar. In some instances anti-inflammatory agents are used in order to flatten out the scar. You can also use certain ointments and lotions recommended by your surgeon. These substances contain onion extract, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Retin-A, glycolic acid and other useful ingredients.

The procedure before and after plastic surgery is not simple enough for you to think that you can be running your normal chores the very next day after your surgery. Cosmetic surgery has some major after effects, both to your physical as well as psychological characteristics that you need to deal with properly. You should learn the ways to take proper care of yourself after the surgery, and you should know when it is the right time to call in your doctor. The well equipped you are in terms of knowledge, the better the whole experience will be.
