Plastic Surgery Procedures for the Face

Your face is the main thing people usually notice about you when they meet you. The way your face looks causes an instant first impression on those you meet. For this reason, plastic surgery of the face is becoming more and more common, allowing people to change their appearance to look younger and more energized through a simple cosmetic procedure.

Nose Job

A "nose job," or rhinoplasty as it is known in the industry, is a relatively common cosmetic procedure that involves making slight changes to improve the appearance of the nose and make it more symmetrical on the body. Typically these changes are to straighten a crooked nose, adjust the bridge of the nose, or reduce the size of the nose. This plastic surgery option can also be used to treat birth defects and injuries.

Face Lift

The face lift is a cosmetic procedure that lifts the skin of the face to remove deep lines and sagging skin. The incisions are typically made near the hairline, so they are invisible underneath the hair once they have healed. This procedure works well for people with deep lines on the cheeks or mouth, sagging skin on the jaw line or cheeks, or an overall "tired" appearance from sagging, loose facial skin.

Brow Lift

A brow lift is a plastic surgery option that deals primarily with the eyes. The goal of this surgery is to restore the look of drooping, sagging eyelids, helping the patient look more alert and awake, and also younger. This procedure also smoothes out the furrows and wrinkles in the forehead. It is less invasive than an overall face lift, but makes a dramatic difference for the patient.

Eyelid Procedure

Patients who have drooping, sagging eyelids but do not need the forehead lift part of a brow lift can opt for eyelid plastic surgery. This procedure is less invasive than a brow lift, but makes a tremendous difference in the way the patient looks. It adds youthfulness and vitality to a patient's facial appearance, simply by opening up the eyes and removing the tired look caused by drooping eyelids.

Chin and Cheek Implants

Receding chins can be embarrassing and unsightly. Chin implants allow a cosmetic surgeon to give a patient a strong, defined chin. Cheek implants can create a more symmetrical appearance on the face for patients struggling with flat cheeks.

Ear Procedures

The ears may not seem that cosmetically important, but patients born with overly large or small ears will tell you that they are often teased about their appearance. Surgeons can pin the ears closer to the side of the head or reduce their size, and these procedures are commonly performed on children, since the ear is fully grown by age four or five.

If you are considering plastic surgery for your face, it is vital to understand that a surgeon is limited in what he can do. Surgery will not change the fundamentals of what you look like. Instead, it improves upon your existing beauty, making you look better while still retaining the basics of who you are.
